Sweet Disaster | Sculptural Décor
Thick-walled Madrone (Arbutus menziesii) bowl. The internal coloration was created with onion skins to provide a light purple hue while a portion of the exterior was carved. Sweet Disaster was created in 2020 as a representation of the disjointed transitions of the year.
Approximately 1/3 of the bowl features carving textures, signifying the start of the new decade, complete with grand plans + activity. The remainder of the bowl was left smooth, like a blank canvas, representing the global halt that occurred with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The subtly stained interior is meant to signify how we must find it within ourselves to protect each other + come together in spirit while maintaining our distance. This piece is purely intended for decorative purposes. No contact with food or water!
