PedeStool

$8,000.00

Oftentimes, to innovate requires us to pay homage to our global predecessors, as we learn from their insights and failures. Pulling visual inspiration from the ancient ruins of Aztec, Toltec, and Mayan structures, PedeStool represents the progressive minds behind these revered and powerful societies as expressed through the architectural, geometric construction. Affixed with a removable seated platform, this work was crafted both by hand and machine. The concept identifies the growing need for the presence of the human element in innovation as we enter the fourth industrial revolution — that of technological advancements, artificial intelligence, and industrial precision.

Technical Description

Crafted from black walnut & steel (internal) and finished with danish oil, PedeStool arises from two completely different hexagonal structures, creating an internal cavity in both the top and bottom halves to lessen weight. The upper and lower sections are connected by two steel plates and a threaded steel rod. The base is comprised of seven layers of black walnut, while the upper portion is constructed in four layers, with the uppermost being a solid seat. The seat was initially shaped by a CNC, then hand shaped to its final design and mounted to the remainder of the piece. It is finished in Danish oil.
