Crafted entirely from acrylic paint and wood shavings from my woodturning projects, this was a painstaking process in patience and ultimately an opportunity for exploration amid the uncertainty of 2021. On its surface, Lament is a depiction of advancing global warming conditions, with the overflow of rising sea levels in the tear flowing from Earth’s pupil. The iris is centered around central & southern America — a resource-rich area of the world that has historically been controlled & raided by the world powers of a given time. The piece depicts Mother Nature in a human form — her eye as a reflection of the current state of the world.
